Immunofluorescence staining of HepG2 cells with PACO58957 at 1:66, counter-stained with DAPI. The cells were fixed in 4% formaldehyde, permeabilized using 0.2% Triton X-100 and blocked in 10% normal Goat Serum. The cells were then incubated with the antibody overnight at 4°C. The secondary antibody was Alexa Fluor 488-congugated AffiniPure Goat Anti-Rabbit IgG(H+L). |
Background: | Intestinal trehalase is probably involved in the hydrolysis of ingested trehalose. |
Synonyms: | Trehalase (EC 3.2.1.28) (Alpha,alpha-trehalase) (Alpha,alpha-trehalose glucohydrolase), TREH, TREA |
UniProt Protein Function: | TREH: Intestinal trehalase is probably involved in the hydrolysis of ingested trehalose. Deficiency of TREH results in isolated trehalose intolerance that causes gastrointestinal symptoms after ingestion of edible mushrooms. Belongs to the glycosyl hydrolase 37 family. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing. |
UniProt Protein Details: | Protein type:EC 3.2.1.28; Membrane protein, GPI anchor; Carbohydrate Metabolism - starch and sucrose; Hydrolase Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 11q23.3 Cellular Component: anchored to plasma membrane; plasma membrane Molecular Function:alpha,alpha-trehalase activity Biological Process: polysaccharide digestion; organ morphogenesis; trehalose catabolic process; trehalose metabolic process; carbohydrate metabolic process; pathogenesis Disease: Trehalase Deficiency |
NCBI Summary: | This gene encodes an enzyme that hydrolyses trehalose, a disaccharide formed from two glucose molecules found mainly in fungi, plants, and insects. A partial duplication of this gene is located adjacent to this locus on chromosome 11. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.
