The Mouse CD103 Monoclonal Antibody (Alexa Fluor 488 Conjugated, M290) is a cutting-edge tool designed for researchers working with CD103, a vital cell surface protein involved in immune responses, particularly in the context of immune surveillance and tolerance. This monoclonal antibody, conjugated with Alexa Fluor 488 for fluorescence applications, has been meticulously developed to ensure superior specificity and sensitivity, making it an invaluable asset for flow cytometry and immunofluorescence studies.CD103, also known as integrin alpha E, plays a pivotal role in immune regulation by mediating interactions between immune cells and epithelial cells in various tissues. It is particularly crucial in the context of mucosal immunity, where it facilitates T cell retention and function within epithelial barriers.
The ability of this antibody to specifically target CD103 enables precise detection and characterization of CD103-expressing cells in immunological research, such as studies focusing on tissue-resident lymphocytes, mucosal immunology, and transplant immunology. The implications of CD103 in immune surveillance, inflammation, and tissue homeostasis underline its significance as a target for investigation in various research areas. By utilizing the Mouse CD103 Monoclonal Antibody (Alexa Fluor 488 Conjugated, M290), researchers can gain deeper insights into the role of CD103 in immune responses and potentially uncover novel therapeutic targets for conditions involving dysregulated immune function, including inflammatory disorders, autoimmune diseases, and cancer.

Background:
CD103 is a type I transmembrane glycoprotein known as αE integrin or Integrin αIEL chain. It belongs to the integrin family and is primarily found on intestinal intraepithelial lymphocytes (IEL). CD103 is also expressed on a subpopulation of lamina propria T cells, epithelial dendritic cells, lamina propria-derived dendritic cells, and a small subset of peripheral lymphocytes. T regulatory cells express high level of CD103. The CD103 expression on lymphocytes can be induced upon activation and TGF-β stimulation. In association with integrin β7, CD103 is expressed as αE/β7 heterodimer. Mature CD103 protein can be cleaved into 2 chains, a 150 kD (C-terminal) chain and a 25 kD (N-terminal) chain, which remain linked by disulfide bonds. CD103 binds to E-cadherin and mediates homing of lymphocytes to the intestinal epithelium.
