RAB4A is a member of the small GTPase superfamily. RAB4A interacts with STX4, RAB11FIP1, RABEP1, CD2AP and KIF3B. In addition, Rab4 is involved in the translocation of glucose transporter (Glu4) in adipocytes. Rab4 overexpression causes a redistribution of receptors on plasma membrane versus endocytic compartments.
RAB4A produced in E.Coli is a single, non-glycosylated polypeptide chain containing 238 amino acids (1-218 a.a) and having a molecular mass of 26.5kDa.RAB4A is fused to a 20 amino acid His-tag at N-terminus & purified by proprietary chromatographic techniques.
UniProt Protein Function: | Rab4: a member of the RAB family of RAS-related GTP-binding proteins, important regulators of vesicular transport and are located in specific intracellular compartments. RAB7 has been localized to late endosomes and shown to be important in the late endocytic pathway. In addition, it has been shown to have a fundamental role in the cellular vacuolation induced by the cytotoxin VacA of Helicobacter pylori. Mutations in this protein cause Charcot-Marie-Tooth type 2B neuropathy. |
UniProt Protein Details: | Protein type:G protein, monomeric; G protein, monomeric, Rab; G protein Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 1q42-q43 Cellular Component: membrane; perinuclear region of cytoplasm; vesicle; endosome Molecular Function:GTPase activity; protein binding; GDP binding; GTP binding; protein transporter activity Biological Process: antigen processing and presentation; intracellular protein transport; metabolic process; regulation of endocytosis; Rab protein signal transduction |
NCBI Summary: | This gene is a member of the largest group in the Ras superfamily of small GTPases, which regulate membrane trafficking. The encoded protein is associated with early endosomes and is involved in their sorting and recycling. The protein also plays a role in regulating the recycling of receptors from endosomes to the plasma membrane. Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been observed for this gene.
