Lumicanalso known as LUM belongs to the small leucine-rich proteoglycan (SLRP) familywhich comprises decorin, biglycan, fibromodulin, keratocan, epiphycan, andosteoglycin. Furthermore we can see that in these bifunctional molecules, theprotein moiety binds collagen fibrils and the highly charged hydrophilicglycosaminoglycans regulateinterfibrillar spacings. Lumican is the main keratan sulfate proteoglycan of the cornea however LUM isalso distributed in interstitialcollagenous matrices throughout the body. Lumican regulates collagenfibril organization and circumferential growth, corneal transparency, epithelial cell migration and tissue repair. Among the diseases associated withLUM is posterior amorphous corneal dystrophy.
LUM Human Recombinant produced in E.Coli is a single, non-glycosylated polypeptide chain containing 343 amino acids (19-338a.a) and having a molecular mass of 39kDa.LUM is fused to a 23 amino acid His-tag at N-terminus & purified by proprietary chromatographic techniques.
UniProt Protein Function: | LUM: a member of the small leucine-rich proteoglycan (SLRP) family that includes decorin, biglycan, fibromodulin, keratocan, epiphycan, and osteoglycin. In these bifunctional molecules, the protein moiety binds collagen fibrils and the highly charged hydrophilic glycosaminoglycans regulate interfibrillar spacings. Lumican is the major keratan sulfate proteoglycan of the cornea but is also distributed in interstitial collagenous matrices throughout the body. Lumican may regulate collagen fibril organization and circumferential growth, corneal transparency, and epithelial cell migration and tissue repair. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008] |
