Human ACHE / Acetylcholinesterase ELISA Kit

At neuromuscular junctions and brain cholinergic synapses, acetylcholinesterase hydrolyzes the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, halting signal transmission. Acetylcholinesterase is also found on the membranes of red blood cells, where it's known as the Yt blood group antigen. Acetylcholinesterase comes in a variety of molecular forms with similar catalytic properties but differing oligomeric assembly and cell surface attachment modes. Alternative mRNA splicing and post-translational associations of catalytic and structural subunits cause structural diversity in the gene products, which is encoded by a single ACHE gene. The hydrophilic form of acetylcholinesterase, which forms disulfide-linked oligomers with collagenous or lipid-containing structural subunits, is the most common type found in brain, muscle, and other tissues. The other, alternatively spliced form, which is mostly expressed in erythroid tissues, differs at the C-terminal end and contains a cleavable hydrophobic peptide with a GPI-anchor site. It binds to membranes via phosphoinositide (PI) moieties that are added post-translationally. AChE activity could be used as a sensitive biomarker of RBC ageing in vivo, which could help researchers better understand the effects of transfusions.
