Background: | This gene is located in the surfeit gene cluster, which is comprised of very tightly linked housekeeping genes that do not share sequence similarity. The encoded protein is a conserved integral membrane protein that interacts with endoplasmic reticulum-Golgi intermediate compartment proteins. Disruption of this gene results in reduced numbers of endoplasmic reticulum-Golgi intermediate compartment clusters and redistribution of coat protein I to the cytosol. Alternate splicing results in multiple transcript variants. |
UniProt Protein Function: | SURF4: May play a role in the maintenance of the architecture of the endoplasmic reticulum-Golgi intermediate compartment and of the Golgi. Belongs to the SURF4 family. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing. |
UniProt Protein Details: | Protein type:Membrane protein, integral; Membrane protein, multi-pass Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 9q34.2 Cellular Component: endoplasmic reticulum membrane; ER-Golgi intermediate compartment; Golgi membrane; transport vesicle Molecular Function:protein binding Biological Process: Golgi organization and biogenesis; protein exit from endoplasmic reticulum; retrograde vesicle-mediated transport, Golgi to ER |
