UniProt Protein Function: | NDUFB2: Accessory subunit of the mitochondrial membrane respiratory chain NADH dehydrogenase (Complex I), that is believed not to be involved in catalysis. Complex I functions in the transfer of electrons from NADH to the respiratory chain. The immediate electron acceptor for the enzyme is believed to be ubiquinone. Belongs to the complex I NDUFB2 subunit family. |
UniProt Protein Details: | Protein type:Mitochondrial Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 7q34 Cellular Component: mitochondrial inner membrane; mitochondrial respiratory chain complex I Molecular Function:NADH dehydrogenase (ubiquinone) activity Biological Process: cellular metabolic process; mitochondrial electron transport, NADH to ubiquinone |
NCBI Summary: | The protein encoded by this gene is a subunit of the multisubunit NADH:ubiquinone oxidoreductase (complex I). Mammalian complex I is composed of 45 different subunits. This protein has NADH dehydrogenase activity and oxidoreductase activity. It plays a important role in transfering electrons from NADH to the respiratory chain. The immediate electron acceptor for the enzyme is believed to be ubiquinone. Hydropathy analysis revealed that this subunit and 4 other subunits have an overall hydrophilic pattern, even though they are found within the hydrophobic protein (HP) fraction of complex I.
