Background: | This gene, isolated using the differential display method to detect tissue-specific genes, is specifically expressed in kidney and liver. The encoded protein shows amino acid, sequence similarity to N-acetyltransferases. A similar protein in Xenopus affects cell adhesion and gastrulation movements, and may be localized in the secretory pathway. A highly similar paralog is found in a cluster with this gene. |
Synonyms: | N-acetyltransferase 8 (GCN5-related, putative) |
UniProt Protein Function: | NAT8: Plays a role in regulation of gastrulation. Belongs to the camello family. |
UniProt Protein Details: | Protein type:EC 2.3.1.80; Membrane protein, integral; Cell adhesion; Membrane protein, multi-pass; Acetyltransferase Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 2p13.2 Cellular Component: endoplasmic reticulum membrane; ER-Golgi intermediate compartment; ER-Golgi intermediate compartment membrane; integral to membrane Molecular Function:cysteine-S-conjugate N-acetyltransferase activity; lysine N-acetyltransferase activity; protein binding Biological Process: beta-amyloid metabolic process; cellular protein metabolic process; glutathione metabolic process; negative regulation of apoptosis; peptidyl-lysine N6-acetylation; response to drug |
