Background: | Component of a cell-surface receptor complex that mediates cell-cell interactions between muscle precursor cells. Promotes differentiation of myogenic cells (By similarity). |
Synonyms: | Cell adhesion molecule-related/down-regulated by oncogenes, CDON, CDO |
UniProt Protein Function: | CDON: Component of a cell-surface receptor complex that mediates cell-cell interactions between muscle precursor cells. Promotes differentiation of myogenic cells. Defects in CDON are the cause of holoprosencephaly type 11 (HPE11). HPE11 is a structural anomaly of the brain, in which the developing forebrain fails to correctly separate into right and left hemispheres. Holoprosencephaly is genetically heterogeneous and associated with several distinct facies and phenotypic variability. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing. |

NCBI Summary: | This gene encodes a cell surface receptor that is a member of the immunoglobulin superfamily. The encoded protein contains three fibronectin type III domains and five immunoglobulin-like C2-type domains. This protein is a member of a cell-surface receptor complex that mediates cell-cell interactions between muscle precursor cells and positively regulates myogenesis. [provided by RefSeq, Aug 2011] |
