Background: | Calcium/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase I is expressed in many tissues and is a component of a calmodulin-dependent protein kinase cascade. Calcium/calmodulin directly activates calcium/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase I by binding to the enzyme and indirectly promotes the phosphorylation and synergistic activation of the enzyme by calcium/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase I kinase. |
Synonyms: | calcium/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase I |
UniProt Protein Function: | CAMK1A: an ubiquitous protein kinase of the CAMK1 family. Activated by Ca(2+)/calmodulin. Must be phosphorylated to be maximally active. Substrates include synapsin I. |
UniProt Protein Details: | Protein type:Kinase, protein; EC 2.7.11.17; Protein kinase, Ser/Thr (non-receptor); Protein kinase, CAMK; CAMK group; CAMK1 family Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 3p25.3 Cellular Component: cytoplasm; nucleus Molecular Function:calmodulin binding; protein binding; calmodulin-dependent protein kinase activity; ATP binding Biological Process: positive regulation of syncytium formation by plasma membrane fusion; regulation of muscle cell differentiation; nucleocytoplasmic transport; signal transduction; cell cycle; protein amino acid phosphorylation; positive regulation of peptidyl-serine phosphorylation; positive regulation of synapse structural plasticity; positive regulation of protein export from nucleus; regulation of protein localization; regulation of protein binding; positive regulation of muscle cell differentiation; positive regulation of transcription from RNA polymerase II promoter; negative regulation of protein binding |
